Observers Collaborative volunteers are invited to join The League and The Reporting Project for a discussion of “Covering a Meeting” or any of the following “Earn Your Press Pass” video sessions
— Introduction
— Interviewing skills (The title is “interviewing,” but the advice in these sessions can be applied to the pre-meeting homework we discussed during the workshop, and to the good listening and good note-taking we’d like to see an Observer employ during a meeting.)
*Preparing for an interview
*Conducting an interview
*Interview follow-up
— Types of stories
*Newsworthiness (This is what we want observers to be watching for in terms of alerting us right away to something new or unusual so we can get the word out fast.)
*Covering a meeting (May be the single most helpful session for observers)
